I am an interdisciplinary artist who merges language, archive, performance, and audio/visual sculpture, into a conduit for advocacy. These intimate devices are enveloped in my writings, archive installs, and my practice as an educator. My implementation is influenced by my upbringing in historic Richmond Heights, Florida; an all-black neighborhood, built in 52’, for black WWII vets. My community was built on history, family, and spirituality, and I observed people who were constantly thriving, fighting, and fellowshipping. I spent a lot of time between My grandma’s house in Carol City and my grandparent’s home in Ft. Lauderdale. The voices from both sides of my family have gifted me local and family histories, and charms. These are the materials I use in performance, prose, in my curation, and movement. How I craft is steeped in a creed I’ve given myself that states, “Everywhere I am, you are”. There is power in remembering, it can change the way a community sees itself, accepts its past, takes up space in the present, and embraces the future.
